UG Domain

The cheapest registration fee does not always lead to the lowest domain cost. Renewal prices, VAT, currency conversion and access to DNS controls can change the decision.

Among the best domain registrars in Uganda, Truehost is the strongest all-round option for a small business that also needs hosting or email. The .UG Registry is the direct route for a standalone .ug, while NETIM suits buyers managing domains across several countries.

The ranking uses prices and terms published by each provider on 22 July 2026. No comparable public data shows which one has the most Ugandan customers, so popularity is not part of the scoring.

Local-first registration and support

1) Truehost keeps the domain and website setup together

Truehost is our first choice for a Ugandan business that wants fewer accounts to manage. You can register the domain, pay through local payment routes, and connect it to hosting or professional email from the same account.

On 22 July 2026, our domain table showed .ug, .co.ug, .com.ug, .or.ug and .org.ug at US$29.99 to register. Renewal and transfer were US$30.

That one-cent difference makes the second-year cost easier to predict than a promotion followed by a steep renewal increase.

Truehost Uganda domain table showing registration at US$29.99 and renewal and transfer at US$30

Truehost’s Uganda-extension table filtered for “ug”, captured 22 July 2026. Recheck the live cart before purchase.

The live .ug registration price is USh 113,962, with renewal at USh 114,000. A standard .com is USh 29,450, with renewal at USh 45,144.

Registration only reserves the name. The domain still needs nameservers or DNS records before it can open a website or receive email. Keeping those services together gives you one support route when something stops working.

Our Uganda page lists Mobile Money, bank and card payments. The price table also separates registration, renewal and transfer charges.

The table does not state whether VAT or payment fees are included. Check the cart total before authorising payment.

If you have not selected an extension, compare .ug and .com for a Ugandan business before searching.

Search for an available domain and see the current prices.

2) The .UG Registry is the direct domain-only route

i3C operates the .ug registry on behalf of Uganda Online. It maintains the namespace and publishes the official extension price schedule.

The .UG Registry price page lists a standard .ug at UGX 95,000 or US$29.50 per year, including VAT. School domains such as .ac.ug and .sc.ug cost UGX 65,000 or US$17.60.

Its international extensions are less competitive. The same table lists .com, .net and .org at UGX 224,000 or US$59 per year.

The official registry price table, captured 22 July 2026. It explicitly labels these figures VAT inclusive.

Older i3C terms and storefront copy have shown different dollar figures. Use the amount in the payment cart if it differs from the public table.

This route works best when you already have hosting and can manage DNS. Buying the domain does not create a website or an email service; you must connect those separately.

The guide to registering a .ug domain explains the details you need before placing an order.

3) Afriregister publishes flat UGX prices

Afriregister has Uganda-specific pages and direct ICANN accreditation for generic extensions such as .com. ICANN lists AFRIREGISTER S.A. under IANA number 1381. The local registry rules still govern .ug.

Its published .com registration and renewal prices are both UGX 64,000. At those rates, two years cost UGX 128,000 before any additional tax or payment charge.

Afriregister lists .ug registration and renewal at UGX 129,500. That is UGX 34,500 above the registry’s annual price, so you are paying more for the registrar’s account and support layer.

The registration agreement describes renewal reminders about one month and one week before expiry for domains covered by ICANN’s recovery policy. It also lists PayPal, cash and bank transfer, although the available methods may differ in the Uganda checkout.

Afriregister makes more sense for a .com buyer who values UGX billing than for someone seeking the lowest published .ug price.

International accounts and hosting bundles

4) NETIM gives international buyers more domain controls

NETIM is a French ICANN-accredited registrar with a dedicated .ug page. Its catalogue covers more than 1,300 extensions, which can simplify administration when you own domains in several countries.

NETIM lists .ug registration and renewal at €40 per year excluding VAT. Transfer costs €24, a change of holder costs €6, and the published registration time is one to three days. Registration is open without a special local-presence procedure.

NETIM includes unlimited forwarding, a 1 GB email address and worldwide Anycast DNS. Its .ug page gives conflicting DNSSEC information, so ask support to confirm that feature if it affects your security policy.

The trade-off is local convenience. A Ugandan buyer must account for euro conversion, VAT and international support instead of paying through a local Mobile Money route.

5) Nindohost pairs .ug with cPanel hosting

Nindohost’s Uganda storefront advertises a .ug at UGX 159,200 per year. Its hosting plans add cPanel, SSL, WordPress tools, backups and support.

Some hosting plans advertise a free first-year domain. The page does not confirm that .ug qualifies, so ask which extensions are included before choosing a plan around that offer.

The public homepage does not show a separate .ug renewal price. Ask for the second-year charge, tax treatment and expected activation time in writing.

This is a hosting-led option. If you only need a .ug, the registry and NETIM publish more of the domain’s lifecycle cost before checkout.

6) Crystal Web Hosting offers direct Kampala assistance

Crystal Web Hosting provides a Kampala contact number, a WhatsApp route and website-design help. Its domain page advertises .com, .net, .org and .biz at UGX 40,000.

Crystal Website Hosting’s domain-registration page, captured 22 July 2026. The visible UGX 40,000 offer covers the displayed global extensions, not a confirmed .ug price.

The screenshot establishes the advertised global-domain price, but not a current .ug, .co.ug or renewal amount. Crystal also sells cPanel hosting, so request an itemised quote.

The quote should separate:

  • domain registration and renewal;

  • hosting and SSL;

  • transfer or redemption charges;

  • DNS-management access; and

  • the registrant name that will appear on the domain record.

Crystal fits a buyer who wants a local person to register the domain, configure hosting and build the site. Buyers who prefer self-service pricing will find Truehost, Afriregister, the registry and NETIM easier to compare online.

7) Olitt works best as part of its website builder

Olitt combines domain search with an AI website builder, hosting and email. Its search page advertised .com at US$5.99 when captured on 22 July 2026, alongside promotional prices for .co.ke, .shop and .tech.

Olitt’s domain-search page, captured 22 July 2026. These are promotional global or regional prices; the screenshot does not show .ug.

You can buy a supported domain or connect one registered elsewhere through a DNS-only plan. Olitt’s billing table does not list .ug or .co.ug.

Its own .ug guide tells buyers to register through Truehost and then point the domain to Olitt’s nameservers. That makes Olitt a website platform for a .ug project, not a separate direct .ug registration route.

The billing page also links to Truehost Cloud’s terms of service. Do not assume the two platforms are unrelated when comparing support or account ownership.

Check ownership and renewal terms before paying

The first-year price is only one line in the decision. Before paying, check:

  • the registration, renewal and transfer prices;

  • whether VAT and payment charges are included;

  • access to nameservers and DNS records;

  • the transfer and account-recovery process; and

  • the name recorded as the domain registrant.

That last point protects you if a designer, employee or agency makes the purchase. The domain should belong to you or your organisation, not the person who happened to place the order.

Keep the registrant email current and renew early. If the domain expires, the website and every email address attached to it can stop working. The domain-expiry guide explains the grace, redemption and release stages.

If you want the domain, DNS, hosting and email under one account, search for your domain and check the current Truehost total.
